Jewels of the South Pacific

I stood, marvelling at how food could be so pretty.
Mouth watering
longing for one small taste.
But alas – a mere half of one of these jewels would run me $35.00
I stole a photo
and continue to relish them a month later.

Fading Away

I like taking photos from the bus – I can spy and be gone before anyone knows… This man captured my imagination… Yes, the people with the hard luck stories and lives that weren’t picture-book pretty always catch my eye. I’m sure he had an ordinary life… he does not look broken… and yet I wonder if maybe he had wanted more.

Gods of the Ancients

I have a fascination for religious iconography. All religions, all over the world – but especially western religions since I am western. I found this guy lurking over the entrance to an old building on Manhattan’s west side.

Taurus was Zeus disguised as a white bull with golden horns – mad for the Phonoecian princess, Europa. As the bull, he became her friend and then carried her off to Crete, revealed himself and married her. And here is is – still hanging about – waiting?

All in your mind

When I dance I am a girl who can whirl and spin and reach and
stretch my arms out to the very edges of the universe.
I would never ever dance in front of a mirror
it couldn’t possibly reflect what’s really going on
and might even make me look ridiculous!

Amazing how crisp this monarch butterfly is if you click and look at the image full size!

An ordinary Friday. An ordinary walk in the park. Boom! Wow! Everywhere – monarch butterflies! Oh, I was spoilt for choice… Divine.

The media would have us believe that as long as we are afraid, everything will be okay. It took me a while to cotton on to this very absurd notion. Being afraid doesn’t protect you from anything – it just makes your life so much less pleasant. I’ve opted to give up the fear.

Mind you, I remain sensible – I lock my doors and look both ways when crossing the street and rarely wander down dark alleys in strange neighbourhoods in the dead of night.
