Wanaka’s Famous Tree

with 2 comments

Wanaka2-18Holidaying down in Wanaka this week. The best week of the year… It’s been most gloomy and rainy… and the weather service is promising snow tomorrow! Could I be more happy?

This tree is 5-6 metres out in the lake. I photograph it every year – this might be the ultimate shot. What do you think?

Been there, I think

Been there

Reach a time and place when
you’ve been there and
you’ve done that
Hell, maybe you didn’t
maybe you watched someone else do it
maybe saw it on TV
Once it gets so far back
it doesn’t much matter much
cos your memory –
gets a bit long
a bit distant
Even though it tastes
as sweet as it ever did
you just can’t recall
the fine detail

The Crown Road

with 3 comments

There’s a long way to get from Queenstown to Wanaka. And there’s also a shortcut… The Crown Road, winding over the Crown ranges – hairpin turns, rock-slides and a bit of screaming on my part. We always go this way and it always terrifies me… It looks so pretty, so scenic from here…
