It was a bit like been transported to the Namibian Desert, even if it was nothing like the desert… And some nice Hawaiian music would have been nice. Oh and while we’re at it – a luau. And a nice cold beer…
I continue my mission to photograph New Zealand’s birds. This lovely cormorant was presiding over a mangrove mudflat at Tahuna Torea, a reserve in Auckland’s eastern suburbs. He had rather a lot to say.

It was perfectly grey, all shades of grey – grey clouds, grey water, grey breakers. No sunset at all. And then, just as we were packing up to go home the clouds parted just a bit. Just enough. Made my day.
