Misty River morning

with 4 comments

Winter has taken on a dreamy surrealistic feel about now. We’ve never had more rain than we’ve had in the last few months. The endless pounding of rain on the roof; the bending, arching trees; the Y-light nothing colour that you can almost see through to a world that seems almost there. We did have a couple days break – the skies cleared to a perfect winter blue – accompanied by blue temperatures, frozen feet and the electric blanket turned up high… I am so very over it about now, thank you… Please don’t tell me there is at least another month! I wish I wish that summer would last this long – even half as long would be nice…

The solution? Head for the snow! Not until Friday, but a bit of ‘proper’ winter always cheers me up!

Mt Aspiring Mist

with 4 comments

Spent a good part of today sorting out photos for a competition. It’s a funny sort of thing to do – amazing how those ‘great’ photos you adored when you took them (and blogged them!) don’t stand up over time. And funny how some of them do. This is actually the very first photo I ever put into any kind of competition. It was judged as a beginner’s photo and received honours – which gave me huge confidence, much needed at the time.

Came upon it again today and thought I should have lightened up those shadows a bit and surely there must have been an adoring bull lurking somewhere, popping his head in… but just because we have the technology, doesn’t mean we should be using it… I like it just fine – just the way it is

Bull mist

with 10 comments

If the birds and the bees can see ultraviolet and infrared, well… what’s to stop a small herd of bull calves from seeing disco lights in the morning mist? Or maybe they were just so happy to see me, they were overjoyed. I’ll always wonder.

In broad daylight

with 12 comments

The forest on a misty morning, a two-storey house with many many rooms, nooks and crannies. All sorts of creatures can live there. Including you. And me.

I’ve uploaded a different take on this scene here… a different shot, but from the same time and place and a little bit different treatment and wide… Actually like this version better, but it does not really fit my blog’s layout.

One sheep keeping watch

Sheep are just so… sheepish. You stop the car and they run for the hills – or at least to the other side of the paddock. They’re sheep. It’s what they do.

But you’ve got to admire that one sheep, that one that will stand its ground, with a bit of curiosity, with a bit of chutzpah. I like this sheep for its un-sheepish qualities.

I don’t rightly know if the woods down here have a proper name. But in the Lord of the Rings movies they played Lothlorien.

I’ve got no trouble believing there’s elves or other sprite-life dwelling here…
