Not sure which part of my imagination this one came from – but I was out for dinner with my daughters and on the ride home it came to me – pretty much just like this, although I thought of a night sky, but once I started working on it, this was obviously the right thing…

I was discussing the triptych concept with a friend the other day, saying I’ve been meaning to do another one.  It’s been a while since I did the three Marys of Bari, Italy. Apparently that was all the inspiration I needed…

The triptych is rooted in religious imagery and while that is a fascination of mine, here I am playing with iconography – the live man in the middle no less symbolic than his bronze and plaster compatriots.

What I love about doing a piece like this is discovering where it takes me, finding the thread that ties them together. The sun, the heavens, the glory of the beyond, with magnificent backstories… Triton forever reaching for Nereida, Mayan pole dancers spinning the world into being from the fibres of heaven and the baby Jesus adoring his father on high. Just splendid.
