I asked Dan, our driver in Penang, to take us to the local cemetery. As he was Chinese, he brought us to the Chinese cemetery. This is why we should never stop climbing trees. I was never much of a tree climber – too much of a girly-girl I guess. It seems a bit late now, but who knows. Maybe this time next year I’ll have a treeside view.
Ang Lee is one of the few directors who can tackle virtually any genre, and with a few exceptions (2003’s The Hulk leaps to mind) come up with something marvellous if not exceptional (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, 2000, Brokeback Mountain, 2005).
