Carrot Cake Version 2

A couple of years ago I made a different looking version of this cake. (If you click on the cake, you’ll find AND the recipe!)

This time around, it’s a sheetcake with decoration to the nth degree. not as difficult as you might think – marzipan carrots (the tricky part is getting the right shade of orange) cushed walnuts for dirt – and lots of parsley. (No one minded the parsley…)

Self portrait birthday

This is what happens when your husband is also a photographer. And you go out for your birthday dinner. And you’re all dressed up, looking good, feeling good. And you ask him to take you photo cos it would be nice to have one on your birthday, to mark the occasion.

But he’s so busy taking photos of everything and everyone else, that he totally forgets. So you end up with a reflection of yourself in a sheet metal column.

It’s not quite the same thing…

Remembering Spring

Tomorrow, 5th of May, Cinco de Mayo, is my birthday. While I have lived in the southern hemisphere for 18 years now, I have never got used to having my birthday in the Autumn. Whilst we did have a sprinkling of snow on the ground a few times when we lived in the mountains of upstate New York, generally speaking, my birthday was accompanied by tulips and daffodils, blossoming fruit trees and the return of Red Robin. It’s one of the few things I really, truly miss.

On the other hand, I have a rather ferocious allergy to flowers. I’m less likely to be overcome by an allergy attack here!
