Basking cormorant
I do hope I’m not becoming a bit of a bore with all this bird photography… I blame it on the 70-200mm lens. Yeah, I always liked photographing them, but they were always small in the frame and you couldn’t really see all the detail in their feathers. But now… I am fascinated… my cameraContinue reading “Basking cormorant”
Maori Bay sunset
One of those places where humans definitely do not belong and for that matter are not particularly welcomed. The surf is fierce, the bird life even fiercer if you should happen to stop and set up your tripod a little to close. I must go back soon. The first time in a place like thisContinue reading “Maori Bay sunset”
Falcon Flight
Another shot of the NZ falcon – soaring… Really, really fast – this was snapped at 1/8000th of a second. Trying to track and shoot something moving that fast was a bit of a challenge, but very satisfying.
Flight
Sorry I’ve been off for a wee bit. Not sure why, just very busy with all sorts. Made a visit the other day to the Gannet Colony at Muriwai Beach. shot this with my new 70-200mm lens, with the 2x extender. It’s soooo big… and is just an amazing lens. Of course the gannet isContinue reading “Flight”
Landing
The seagull is just so under-rated, so underappreciated.
Tomtit!
A brillliant day – we drove to the Blue Pools. Last year it was below freezing and the area was gilded with hoarfrost. This year it’s nearly warm out – so different – especially the sandflies which think it’s still the height of summer… Never mind… I shot away, admiring the amazing blue of theContinue reading “Tomtit!”
South Island Oyster Catcher
Titirangi Beach is just down the hill from me. From time to time I like to take my long lens and go spy on the birdlife. I don’t think I’ve run into one of these before. There were three of them there, happily feasting on our local delicacies. However, they were insistent on presenting theirContinue reading “South Island Oyster Catcher”
Polly don’t want no damned cracker
It don’t matter how good the food is or how nice the accommodation – he longs for freedom.
