I sometimes think I go on about my idyllic life in the bush a little too much… and this picture is so very idyllic… However… these are my kitchen windows… living in the woods, the stormy windy, tree pollen, bush goo and spider web woods (not to mention the wetas that look like naked tarantulasContinue reading “Reflections”
This happens to be Auckland, New Zealand – but it could be downtown anywhere. The ubiquitous needle-tower, brightly coloured glass and chic hotels and office buildings. Reminds me of The Matrix. Pretty to look at, nice to live in. Maybe a little too choreographed, but we’ve got other things on our minds.
Not sure what brought this on… I certainly would not mind being in Mumbai again. But this girl is no more in Mumbai than I am. I snapped her a couple of years ago performing at a festival commemorating Indian independence – at a race track in Avondale, a suburb not far from where IContinue reading “If I were in Mumbai again”
Shot through my office window a couple of nights ago… not as sharp as I would like, but I had the camera set up on the tripod and kept shooting, using various settings until the colour was exactly what I saw with my eye, not brighter or duller or more or less saturated. But exactlyContinue reading “Last light”
Apologies for putting two of these little globes up in a row, but I’ve had a bit of fun making them, experimenting with different types of subjects. Landscapes are the easiest to work with as long as you’ve got a bit of variety in the terrain. But anything that can be shot or cropped toContinue reading “Auckland Sunset”
Love this one. I’m a sucker for long exposure urban shots… but then, who isn’t. This one has a bit of a twist. This is downtown Auckland shot from the MS Volendam last month.
Actually, this rose is NOT in my garden, it is in the Parnell Rose Garden, in Auckland. I love the phrase though as it is the title of one of my daughter’s favourite books books when she was small, by Anita and Arnold Lobel. (I think that’s their names, too late to look them upContinue reading “The Rose in My Garden”
When I was a little girl, I did not understand that not everyone saw colours the way I did – that some things were a particular colour, but other things just had a colour. I’ve since learned it’s really not that uncommon – synesthesia – a sort of crossing of the senses. Some people canContinue reading “seeing between”
A bit of whimsy in honour of the All Blacks vs Canada on Sunday night. The Canadians have gone mad. Well, they’ve always been a bit mad – rather terrifying to your bog standard Kiwi – though not on the Rugby field. I doubt it’s gonna be pretty on Sunday night… So a little reminderContinue reading “Friendship & the Rugby World Cup”
I’ve never been much of a sport fan, despite living in a country that is mad for sport, and especially mad for rugby. And we’re in the middle of the Rugby World Cup – being hosted right here in New Zealand. So I’ve been a bit hesitant to go into the city – the eveningContinue reading “I Love the Rugby World Cup”
