Beachwalkers

We’ve had a spate of dreary weather, wintry and wet, with blusters and blasts… this winter day at the beach in Raglan was so much kinder.

  1. Oh, I so love the time of the gloaming….the golden glow before night takes over from the day. Jan Karon in her Mitford books calls it the “changing of the light” time. A time of reflection. A time to take a deep breath and move into the next after day is done.

    1. Yeah, there’s something about that light coming from low in the sky. Back before I studied light, I described this time of day as the most 3 dimensional… and it turns out that, at least visually, it is… bright broad spectrum light coming from directly above seems to flatten everything – to the eye, on film and in digital photography… Low light is filtered, warmer and creates beautiful shadows which add depth… so perhaps there is a logical and well as romantic reason for loving the gloaming…
