Ha ha! I wanted to find that taxi driver too!

It had a few hairy moments, for sure - but I would take that sort of chance pretty much anywhere in Europe as long as the town was big enough to have some accommodation. I'm sure I would have been a brilliant backpacker had I seized the opportunity in my youth. (I got married and had children instead...). I am encouraging my younger daughter to go with her husband next year - before they have children as neither have ever been. Once the babies and mortgages and careers get entrenched, it's 25 years before you get another chance. Which is fair enough - I got to return when I was in my late 40s and it was still wonderful... Hoping to go next year as last time I was there was 2008...

Love stories (truth or fiction) with rain in them. I wanted you to find the friendly taxi driver whose wife or sister rented out a room and bath in her home. You know, the one with hot soup on the back burner and peasant bread with fresh butter for any weary traveller. A hot breakfast with some robust brew would be nice the next day too. Sounds to me I'd better scale back from my carry-on to a back-pack like my husband and get us off on an unknown road soon :)

I couldn't agree with you more. No matter where I go I find myself letting go of some expectation or assumption I had made without realising it. There are so many ways of being a human being and experiencing life. I think that unless we travel, we can't truly comprehend that.
Llubljana was a beautiful surprise - I'd like to spend a week or two exploring the surrounds. It's especially nice that they are not overloaded with visitors and still appreciate foreign guests. The people were some of the nicest I've met anywhere.
As for Estonia - it was the land of my mother's birth and lived up to every little story she and my grandmother ever told me. I spent two weeks, and will definitely return. It is a fairyland out of time. Come to think of it, so was Latvia.
London and Paris are good places to start - I call them the big rocks - tick them off the list early. They are fabulous - but also well documented, crowded and not much left to discover... Meanwhile there are so many nooks and crannies in the world to stumble onto... If you have it in your heart, you will not be able to deny it... You will travel...
Cheers, Veronica

Hi,

I believe that travel is one of the best things that one can do.
It makes us more rich from the cultural and personal side, making us more open and tolerant to other cultures and less egocentric.
I've seen photos of Ljubljana and ,found them quite appealing.
I also think that Estonia must be nice.
I don't have enough income to travel (only have been to London and Paris and a bit of Spain), but on my agenda are places like Italy, namely Rome and Florence (Tuscany must be awesome), Prague, Wien and Budapest.
We'lll see if in the future I'll have the chance.

Kind regards,

José
