Thirteen used to be my lucky lucky number, ever since I was 7 and put a dime on the wheel at a church bazaar and it won - and I walked away with a cool $1.30 which was a considerable amount when you think a Nestlé's Crunch Bar cost five cents.
But I've got to rethink it... this year's been crap - troubles, illness, heartbreak... I'm half thinking those half-crazed Mayans might have been half right - though I don't half know about what.
Taking suggestions for sure-fire cures for angst, ennui, hospital stays, strict diets and other people. And any other good advice is always welcome.
Didn't get the palomino I was hoping for in 2012, definitely no Nestle's Crunch in 2013. What do I want from this year??? From the OTHER half of this year...

These days it's all about the Photopo, but I also write fiction. You can find some of my short stories here.
One photo every day (well, almost every day) taken to a different dimension, funny, poignant, sad, hopefully clever... Observations about living in this world and pondering the possibilities of others. To view the archive, click here.
If I were an island, I should lay in wait until a kind bird came and sat upon me to keep me company. And if a shipwrecked sailor drifted upon my shore I would be in heaven.
Do you feel like an island? Or like a sailor? Maybe it depends on the day or the time of day or the island or the sailor. I'd rather be a bird. Would I rather sit on the island? Or on the sailor sitting on the island? And what of the water? Surely the water would want to have a say in all of this. The water would probably insist.
Appease the water, bird, island and sailor, dazzle it with trinkets and pretty words.

Stark beauty. Brrrr~! Wonderful contrasts with the bare tree silhouettes.

Thanks, Happy! I am always torn by the early morning photography down here… so very beautiful, so very very very cold! I’m pretty good with layering up, but bare fingers are a necessity (I have fingerless gloves)… Still, I can’t help wishing I lived here year round…

Ha ha… exactly… it’s on the Upper River Track off Riverside Road which runs along the Clutha River. This is between Wanaka and the next closest town, Hawea. Freezing my butt off and getting my toes wet as this little tributary meets the river. I only wish I had brought a chair, blankets to wrap myself in and a thermos of hot tea to sip so I could sit there for at least 3 hours…
